Design and Construction with Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Geofoam

Course Status

0%

EPS geofoam is an emerging lightweight material, with a density of 1-2% of soil, which is far away lighter than other materials. The ultra-lightness of EPS geofoam provides great benefits to the construction process, as well as its operation phase.

This course is lectured by Dr. S. M. Amin Ghotbi Siabil, mainly focusing on (a) EPS geofoam properties and (b) design and construction practices with EPS geofoam in embankments, retaining structures and utility protection. Most of the course material is selected from the “Expanded Polystyrene Geofoam” chapter (coauthored by the Dr. Ghotbi Siabil ) in the book “New Materials in Civil Engineering”.

The course is addressed to professionals from civil engineering, geotechnical engineering and construction.
